Manolo Blahnik Heels

Heels for ice cream is (or should I say was?) the concept behind stashing a coveted pair of Manolo Blahnik heels inside of a glass box on an advertising billboard.

These shoes were free to the woman (or man) brave enough to climb up and snatch the shoes several meters above a busy intersection; a climb that would require some serious effort to obtain these beauties!

The idea behind the stunt by Much Moore Ice Cream is that women simply cannot resist the temptation of a guilty pleasure. In this case, Much Moore proved us right and the temptation had disappeared within 3 hours.

I’ve since been following the fate of the heels via @MediaCounselPR who had sourced a boy to scale the billboard and retrieve the shoes. They are currently sitting on an online auction site, after the shoes were found to be too small for any of the girls behind the retrieval mission. Awh!

I love a clever PR stunt, and this crazy campaign was successful in generating hype. The drawback is the question of longevity. Considering the quick disappearance of the Manolo’s, exactly how long is the hype going to last? (although, I have heard rumors of a round two…)

It does beg the question though, would you steal the shoes? I’m not so sure I’d have the guts!

I love Manolo’s, but I can’t say that I’m a fan of the aesthetic of these shoes. Definitely a clever marketing idea though! :)

It is pretty clever! I think the shoes are glamorous looking but I’m not too sure I’d be interested if they weren’t publicized in this way!

I would totally steal them, providing they were the right size!

I’m not really a fan of any open toed shoes. But this advertising campain is genious, cute and hilarious! It reminds me of those anti-piracy adverts. “You wouldn’t steal a car! You wouldn’t steal a handbag! Downloading movies is stealing” hahaha brilliant

I don’t think I would have done it, but if I had been in the area, I would probably bee hanging around a little while to see if anyone else did! Clever strategy though, it gets the word out and even though the item disappears quickly, the posters will still be there reminding people of the hunt.

@Mausumi: I think that is what I would have done, to be honest! Stuck around and watched the show. :P
