New Zealand fashion is pretty individual, to quote Face Hunter “subtle and creative. I like it.” Perhaps this is why New Zealand is home to some extremely talented jewelery designers.

There are numerous kitschy and unique looking pieces to choose from. It’s the kind of jewelery you can imagine having for years and never getting sick of it.

Of course, I have my favorites designers and these five continue to trigger my inner Magpie.

5. Meadowlark

The creative duo behind Meadowlark jewelery promote themselves as producing long lasting, precious jewelery treasures. I love the constant appearance of bones, fangs and snakes throughout their pieces and I have never seek skulls done as well they’re done here.

4. Huffer

Huffer is inherently cool, and their jewelry reeks of it. This jewelery is about shapes and blocks and reminds me of sitting in a room with very modern interior design.

3. Stolen Girlfriends Club Jewelery

SGC_BowRing

Bold and beautiful, this jewelry caters very well to men and women. The jewelery designs are tough, with sparing appearances by delicate roses and bows. The photography is beautiful, and worth viewing purely for the aesthetic.

2. Karen Walker Jewelery

Karen Walker produces perhaps some of the most coveted designs, and her jewelery is no exception. I absolutely adore the robot family necklace series, but there is a unique assortment of concepts including axes and nuts & bolts.

1. Deadly Ponies Precious

DeadlyPoniesPrecious

Deadly Ponies Precious jewelery is a little different. The creators are inspired by the Victorian tradition of ‘mourning jewelry,’ and their collection lends itself to themes of macabre and death. Detailed bones, animal heads, claws and skulls are more spooky than cute but remain beautiful and whimsical. These pieces are perfect.

I don’t know where to invest my money first! Of the 5 I’ve shared, which are your favorites?

I like the deadly ponies the most. every piece is like it has its own story behind it. like “where did you get that thigh bone?”: “I was at an archeological dig site in Monrovia and I got to take a little something home”. I think karen walker might be a bit of a copycat.
