I’ve been quietly following 2010 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) coverage from Las Vagas over the past week, and amongst all the excitement around tablets and 3d TVs something that stuck out to me was Lady Gaga’s unexpected appearance and the announcement of her partnership with Polaroid.
Gaga’s been named the creative director of a specialty line for Polaroid, and in an interview with CNBC explained:
“My job has nothing to do with me being a pop star. It’s not an endorsement deal or campaign… it is 100% a partnership with me as the creative director of new products and branding nothing more than my artistic vision.”
One critic asked, “why would a a company hire a pop singer to do anything but star in a commercial for them?” Well, whether you like it or not, Gaga is pretty business savvy, as well as having the support of her entire empire to to inject success into almost anything. Pursedlips was on the money when they said Lady GaGa may be the single most powerful editorial machine for fashion designers – something I think translates easily into other industries.
According to Polaroid, the Gaga specialty line will be available in late 2010… but unfortunately there’s no indication of what it might do, or what it might look like. However, I’m still pretty eager to feast my eyes on a GaGaroid camera.
