I have been continually impressed by the charitable efforts of Giapo, an authentic Italian sorbet and ice cream parlor located in Auckland City. Speaking quite honestly, Giapo’s recent charity events (Charity Sorbet, and now Unicef Undercover), that drove me to taste and subsequently become quite a fan of Giapo’s incredibly delicious frozen desserts.

Giapo promised to donate the proceeds accumlated between 3 – 4pm on the 25 of April (World Malaria Day) to Unicef Undercover, which is about raising money to buy insecticide treated mosquito nets to protect kids from deadly malaria mosquitoes.

The event was supported by artists Ivy Lies and Massad Barakat-Devine who generated a bit of a crowd, and raised ‘$585 in 1 hr of gelato and good music‘ (via Giapo).

It’s a great example of businesses collaborating with charitable foundations to contribute to a worthwhile cause, and Giapo is making a name for itself by doing exciting things in this area. You only have to hear the story behind Charity Sorbet to appreciate the creativity and energy put into these fundraisers. They’re smart, give you a good feeling and are, of course, delicious.

PS Giapo is  impressive, my recommendation is cocoa sorbet which is tastier than any chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had. If you’re in Auckland, New Zealand, visit Giapo on 279 Queen Street.

I love it when businesses do this! It’s a great iniciative and I can imagine good for them as well, as it exposed the crowd drawn in by the music entertainment to their ice cream if they hadn’t heard of it yet.
Beautiful new layout, very clean cut and elegant!
