There are few things that I don’t like in Trelise Cooper’s new jewelery collection: Locket Full of Secrets. It’s done what I love the most about jewelery, taking seemingly mundane items out of the real world and re-designing them into covetable pieces of metal. This range is inspired by an antique aesthetic, featuring carousels, magnifying glasses, nymphs, angels and bows with engraved Latin inscriptions on pendants, rings, cuffs, lockets and a beautiful charm bracelet.
The range itself was a product of a collaboration between Mint Jewellery, the masterminds behind Boh Runga’s jewelery collection, after they approached Cooper with the idea of working together in 2009. It was only a matter of time too. Trelise is known for gifting jewelery of her own design to NZ fashion week attendee’s, it’s just never before been for sale. The end result has been well worth waiting for, and if I had to pick a favorite piece it’d probably be the charm bracelet – but coming in at nearly $1,000 I don’t think I’ll be wearing it on my wrist anytime soon.
Olivia Hemus did a stunning job for the Look Book – it’s locket full of secrets to a tee, channeling femininity, secrets and a little bit of sexual prowess. The later didn’t go down with The View accused Trelise of using sex to sell the range; as far as I’m concerned, if it gets you pictures like these then by all means use sex. Plug Lust has a collection of jewelry that you can use during sex which only validates the status quo.
