“Celine Rita is unapologetic about letting girls dress like girls; For Celine Rita, it’s about having fun with what you wear with colour, texture and striking prints.”
I love Celine Rita’s Winter 2011 collection; Dance to Your Own Tune; which draws inspiration from sixties muse Edie Sedgewick. Celine imagines that Edie sobered up and lived into the 70’s (rather falling victim to a drug related incident), capturing the sartorial expression of a hyper-real Sedgewick in her collection.
Effortless edginess is translated into maxi skirts & dresses, with splashes of velvet, luxe capes and a bright pop of yellow; prettied up with florals and lace. The end result is both wearable, and a little bit off-beat… just like someone dancing to their own tune.
My favourite picks would have to be these dresses for their flattering cut and muted prints and the cape (above). Pretty pretty.
Each Celine Rita collection has been even better than the last, and after her New Zealand Fashion Week debut last year I can’t help but see big things for madame Rita. Here’s to many more!
