I’ve been in the US for a little over a week now, with a few days ago before I’m back on a plane flying over the pacific ocean to my home in New Zealand. As far as first-time international travel experiences go, this trip has been amazing. I flew with the wonderful Air New Zealand from Auckland, New Zealand to San Francisco. After making it through customs (it wasn’t as scary as I thought!) I transfered to a United Airlines flight across the states (Air New Zealand showed up United Airlines in a big way) to Washington Dulles airport, Maryland.
& after that experience, I can finally say that I have some first time long-haul travelling tips of my own! (more to come on that one…)
I stayed with family in Bethesda – for the wedding that I initially flew over for (I should really say ‘we’ as I flew with my mum!). The wedding itself was gorgeous. One of my cousins is a cake & cupcake decorating king and the wedding cake was owed to his seriously rad skills:
There was still time for exploring and these photos are from the night I ventured into Washington DC for a bit of sight seeing and photo opportunities…
I could not resist a few cheesy tourist photos in front of these two guys…
These photos were taken by my Mum’s cousin (I’m not sure of the technical relation!) who is an incredible photographer.

Glassons leather gloves
The cherry blossoms were beautiful too. :>
I’m currently based in West Chester County, New York; which is along the south east commuter route. I’ve been catching the train into the city pretty much every day (and yes, I LOVE NYC!). I have so much more from the big apple coming in the next few days, but for now I just have one question, um… can I stay here forever?!
