Here’s a little trick I learnt from the M.A.C Technique seminar I went to during NZ Fashion Festival: When in doubt, wear peach. I followed up on this last week by picking up a peach lipstick in ‘Ravishing’ and lip liner in ‘Summerfruit’. I’ve started asking the in-store M.A.C makeup artists to try the products on me before I buy. It takes a little bit longer, but I haven’t walked away with a regretful makeup buy since! Anyway, here’s my technique for the perfect ‘touch of peach.’
Step 1: Exfoliate and Moisturize
Feel free to skip if you’re in a rush, but exfoliating makes a huge difference in getting your lip colour to stay put. You can either use a store bought lip scrub, or make your own. Combine 1/2 tsp honey with 1/2 tsp baking soda to form a paste. Apply to your lips for a couple of minutes, then rub in to remove dead skin. Follow up with a gentle brush from a tooth brush, and then moisturize with a lip balm.
Step 2: Lip Liner
Start by applying lipliner to your lip line, and then ‘fill them in’ for a fuller coverage. This helps the colour to stay on longer, it also helps avoid an akward lip line when the colour does start to rub off!
Step 3: Lip Stick
Finally, apply lip stick all over the lips. M.A.C recommend using a lip brush for the best result, but in my experience it’s not something you need to get a good result (especially if you’re using a lighter colour such as peach!).
