NZFW 2012: Hailwood
September 15, 2012 in NZ Fashion
Even now, the one word that comes to mind when I think of the Hailwood show at NZFW is ‘dreamy’ – thanks to set-up that featured a carpeted runway paved with misty-spotlights. The winter 13 collection shown (titled ‘Winter State’) was large, varied, and had a strong 70′s vibe about it – everything from sweaters & quilted bomber jackets (!) to full skirts and elegant evening wear. The colour palette was excellent – dusky pinks, teal, and beige with splashes of gold, aubergine, and midnight blue.
Individual pieces from the collection (i.e. sweaters, peplum tops, full skirts, and tailored pants) felt ready-to-wear – easily transitioned from the runway in to one’s current wardrobe (aided in part by the easy 70′s blow dry hair created by Sebastian Professional). I loved Hailwood’s take on floral, and the ‘Hailwood horse’ sweaters, but the stand out piece for me was a beautiful sheer-glittering aubergine skater dress – demonstrating Adrian Hailwood’s skill for creating pieces perfectly tailored to the female figure.
