Last week Stolen Girlfriends Club held their NZFW show in a grungy basement/car park. Titled ‘Dirty Magic’, the show had a dark carnival atmosphere (light show, check, neon signage, check) and the collection strong goth, punk, and witchy influences. Plaid, leather, full length velvet dresses and paisley patterned mesh featured heavily, accessorised with safety pins, piercings, and mohawks. Eye makeup was especially memorable and dramatic, with an extreme interpretation of crying blood. You can check melodyeotvos for updates regarding events or shows.

One of Tim and I’s favourite weekend rituals is brunch, and Stanley’s cafe in Milford has recently become our new favourite place for it. Not only does it happen to be within walking distance, but everything from the food, to the service and interiors is pretty spot on. The coffee’s fantastic, and the menu fairly varied – full of old favourites as well as new things to try. Being a creature of habit, I haven’t ventured too far off my staple poached eggs on rye toast (today’s pick), though I can speak for their scrambled eggs (they’re the best I’ve ever tasted) and the breakfast salad which is totally scrumptious. Tim opted for the ‘Big Stan’ – an epic combination of eggs, bacon, sausages, fried potato, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Yum

Awhile back I was sent a baking challenge by the way of of Cadbury and Philadelphia Cream Cheese to celebrate season 3 of New Zealand’s Hottest Home Baker (I watched every episode, by the way). My mission? Cupcakes! Though Peanut Butter & Chocolate Cupcakes were suggested, I wanted to do something a little different – having recently stumbled onto this yummy recipe for frost-less Red Velvet Cupcakes with a cream cheese swirl on the inside (the idea being that the frosting is in the middle). The result was too cute not to share :o)
