Last week Stolen Girlfriends Club held their NZFW show in a grungy basement/car park. Titled ‘Dirty Magic’, the show had a dark carnival atmosphere (light show, check, neon signage, check) and the collection strong goth, punk, and witchy influences. Plaid, leather, full length velvet dresses and paisley patterned mesh featured heavily, accessorised with safety pins, piercings, and mohawks. Eye makeup was especially memorable and dramatic, with an extreme interpretation of crying blood. You can check melodyeotvos for updates regarding events or shows.
Fashion and Style
A spring shoot inspired by 60’s mod and shot against a lush, suburban background – I want to be there right now. All nonchalant & unapologetically neat & well groomed. And how cute are those handbags? I’m drawing a lot of style inspiration from this shoot – space-age glasses with lady-like dresses, sharp white blouses, short mod skirts, and pointed flats. I just need the Balenciaga, Prada, and Louis Vuitton to pull it all together.
A little while ago I was gifted a beautiful watch by Swedish watch company Daniel Wellington – and I (almost) literally have not taken it off since. The watches themselves are gorgeous – a thin, elegant and minimalistic design paired with a Nato strap (though I selected a plain black). The strap comes from founder Daniel Wellington who loved pairing Rolex watches with old Nato straps – the result being a unique and surprisingly elegant look and feel. Beau Coop’s beautiful shoes for Karen Walker’s ‘Sea Monsters’ line are in store now and they are absolutely gorgeous. The entire line is prefect – I love the leather, paisley prints, and gold chain embellishment… and how cute are the heeled slippers? My favourite style is the ‘Lincoln Nero Marine’, the black and blue boot with gold chain and ruffle embellishment. The only reason I haven’t tried them on is because I’m afraid I won’t be able to take them off. ; )
The steel cap is a particular embellishment that has been increasingly catching my eye. It’s a style that works well for both flats and high heels – giving the shoe that extra something special. My ultimate favourite out of these picks is the Jeffrey Campbell Koon (above, and #4) – however I couldn’t find it available anywhere that actually ships to New Zealand. However, needless to say, I’m sure one of these pairs will have a place in my wardrobe soon. What do you think about the steel cap?

Last weekend Dani and I went on a bit of a shopping trip in the CBD – including a walk through Little High Street (entry through Whitcoulls, just past the upstairs magazine section). It was here that we came across ‘Prepare to Want’, a neat grungy-glam type store with some fantastic accessories on display.. including this range of colorful faux Cambridge satchels priced at around $70.
