I placed my first order with ASOS a little while ago (after months of picking, choosing and hesitating). I ordered a jumper, dress and pair of boots figuring that with free shipping I could always go back for more later on.
I don’t usually write about runway shows, but I’ll make an exception for Karen Walker at New York Fashion Week. Karen Walker is one of (if not the) biggest name in New Zealand fashion, and almost synonymous with our little industry. I’m always eager to know what Karen Walker is rolling out in the next season, and I wasn’t disappointed by her spring show ‘Perfect Day.’
Karen Walker always seems to find something for everyone, we see a mixture of party dresses, man blazers and work pants, quirky t-shirts, smart shirts, and fashion forward statement pieces for those that are so-inclined. Season-to-season there’s always something by Karen Walker that’s caught my eye.
‘Perfect Day’ is bright and colourful, with staple prints and loud pops of colour in the flavour of orange, yellow and blue. Paying attention to detail, the bows on the belts, girlie hates and great clutches give this collection the perfect amount of playful femininity.
These are a few of my favourite looks from the show. I wanted to post nearly all of them because each look is nearly as eye-catching as the last. I’ve been well and truly fascinated. Thank you KW, I look forward to this collections appearance in store early next year.
The print on the right (below) is my favourite from this collection. Soft and feminine, with subtle ruffles. I could wear that all through summer and refuse to take it off come winter.
I’ve also never felt so strongly about mustard…
Let me just talk about the SHOES for a minute. Gorgeous, aren’t they? The two on the left are Beau Coups. New Zealand’s best in footware meets New Zealand’s best in clothes. Perfect match. I’m not too sure who’s designed those on the right, but are they a creeper? a platform? a loafer? Some mix of the three? I love it!
Update! I found full size images of the Beau Coops in Karen Walker’s show, gorgeous aren’t they?

Yay! Killer online clothing retailer Nasty Gal is offering free international shipping on orders $250+. I might just have to make an order, because now is definitely the time.
But, before I get too caught up in the shoes. Here’s what I’d be putting in my cart if money wasn’t an issue:
Ivy League Button-Down ($42), BB DakotaLace Scallop Skirt ($68), Hail Mary Thigh Highs ($12), Azura Lace-Up Boot ($68)
I LOVE this shirt, it’s big and floaty, but stylish enough to look elegant rather than boyish. The skirt is very pretty too. I wouldn’t wear it without a long top though. The’s only so much white I can handle.
Sequin Mesh Sweater ($48), Total Stud Skirt ($58), Ruched With Love Socks ($18), Jeffrey Campbell Glen Suede Wedge ($122)
I love the ruched socks look, if it weren’t so cold I’d happily supplement all my tights in exchange for them. Those Jeffrey Campbell’s aren’t as amazing as the Pixie Zip wedges, but I could get by.
What would be in your Nasty Gal shopping bag?
I’ve been plagued with shoe lust as of late. I’m signed up to Sole Struck’s e-newsletter (if you’re a shoe fiend you need to be on this list) and they’ve been getting in new brands and new stock like crazy.
I love the big chunky look to shoes at the moment, I’ve moved on from liking strappy t-bar heels. More shoe is definitely better.
Here’s a peek at what I’m into right now:
Jeffrey Campbell Milton, Jeffrey Campbell Pixie, Jeffrey Campbell Xanadu Fur
Sam Edelman Zoyla, Matiko Halle, Gee Wa Wa Fatales
Senso Acacia, Senso Tina, Senso Madeia
All available via Solestruck.com (recommended!)
Jeffrey Campbell seems to be able to turn the shoes of our dreams into a reality. He must be listening pretty closely to what we’re looking for in a shoe right now. It will be interesting to see if he is still as popular once the big-chunky-wedge trend is over. Senso (bottom line) is another one to watch, they’ve got some great designs.
What is your favourite style of shoe right now?
I ordered these Jeffery Campbell wedges from Solestruck awhile back and they finally arrived in the mail last week. To my luck, it was love at first sight and they were a perfect fit. I’ve been too sketchy about the shoe fitting to buy my shoes online in the past – but these were worth it. They fit true to size, and they’re so comfortable and stable considering their height.
Very easy to walk in, they’re likely to go into high footwear rotation.
Solestruck are a reliable online shoe retailer, carrying an impressive selection of Jeffery Campbell shoes. They’ll provide you with tracking and a reliable estimated date of arrival. Just remember to build the cost of shipping + any customs fees just so that you don’t get caught out unexpectedly.
